This was pretty cool 🙂
A number of months back, a group from Xavier University of Louisiana stopped by the Community Dinner with a videographer and started recording everything that goes on at them – including The Closet.
Unbeknownst to me, Micah Ecumenical Ministries was nominated for an “Opus Prize” and in the running for a $1,000,000 donation!! And the group of students and leaders that visited were going around the world visiting the top 3 organizations nominated for the prize – Micah being one of them.
Sadly they weren’t selected for the top prize – BUT! – they came away with a bunch of new friends and exposure, as well as a nice “little” check of $100,000 ; ) And interestingly, we still don’t know who nominated them as it’s all kept on the hush! Nor had any of us even heard of this Opus Prize?!
Apparently it’s one of the world’s largest faith-based humanitarian awards recognizing social innovation and service to others. You can learn more about it here: OpusPrize.org
At any rate, they filmed a video while here showcasing what Micah does for our community, and The Closet makes a few cameos.
Check it out!
