This is a partnership that just felt meant to be 🙂
I had met up with a donor in the Wegmans parking lot to pick up some clothes, and thought I’d just walk into Uptown Cheapskate and see what they were about after hearing so much buzz about them. I really didn’t have any intentions outside of that, but after chatting with some of the associates, one thing led to another and I was casually offered the opportunity to receive all their leftover clothes!
Which is fantastic because a) most of the people that bring clothes there are young and stylish which means all their clothes are too! lol.. and b) it gives us another steady stream for weeks when single donations are low.
It also accidentally opened up an opportunity to spread our reach further, because unbeknownst to me a handful of the items in all these extra clothes are prom dresses and fancy high heels! Which we usually don’t carry or give out, but since there are sooooo many of them now in my garage (two tubs full!) it’s forced me to find new ways to help.
So far I’m funneling them to my good friend and fellow volunteer Barb for a Stafford high school Prom event she’s putting on (perfect!), and then another batch is going to my mother who knows of a place in the Appalachians who can really use them. But if YOU know of any good places or orgs who could benefit from them, do please let me know as there will be more flowing in weekly!
So thank you Uptown Cheapskate!! For the clothes and the new opportunity to help others : ) It’s been amazingly fun and *easy* working with y’all so far, and I’m glad I just happened to walk in that day, haha…
And if any of y’all are looking to sell any of your own clothes (*gasp*), do think of them first as they buy and sell gently used clothes – men’s and women’s! Basically like Plato’s Closet, only with a more upscale feel as well as other differences I’m sure.
I won’t hate you if you try getting cash first and then donate the rest of your clothes to me! Or just leave them there as I’ll be getting them anyways! 😂
